The Longest Garden Path

Make prayers then
For the sake of prayers
To a chill world of numb obsolescence
You are vague here as memory
And fade as fast as better days
Swarm up to your Heaven as so many droning bees
A mass of humming arrows
A drowning clock of desire
Shouting outwards
No God can hear you
Plug up your head and sing Anthem and Hymn
To the soul of your own fire

God is Laughing
God is Laughing
At the heart of Music and Bourbon
With the Church of All and Nothing
We stand for
More than a slow remembrance
A temporary relief
From the pain of Creation
God is Laughing

And this then is us
Tears on our faces
Laughing wildly at the Parade
Praying and Thank You and Love
Along the Garden Path
Long and longing
For every day but this one.
